Between the 19th and 22nd May, five members of the Wales Digital Radio Group operated the GB8SOS special event station on Shell Island, near Harlech.
Consisting of five amateur radio operators, the team made 342 contacts with other amateur radio stations all around the world over the weekend; 267 using data modes, 31 on analogue voice and 44 on digital voice. Every band between 80m and 70cm was activated, with the exception of 6m. Contacts were made with stations all around the world
Grateful thanks goes to the owners and staff of Shell Island, a massive campsite covering 300 acres right on the edge of the Cambrian Coast, for making us so welcome.
with other amateur radio stations around the world, using various modes; this included voice, FT8, Wires-X and DMR.
It was really interesting to note to the lack of interference that the four transceivers caused each other. This given that the antennas were all located within a relatively small area. This was down, in some part to the fact that they were all operating low power, but still making amazing contacts with stations far (opposite side of the world) and near.
